Bruder Klaus Field Chapel Model
A sculpture in the landscape; a strong statement that is highly textural are all key design elements highlighted in the boldness of my model of the Bruder Klaus Field Chapel by Peter Zumthor. Built to a 1:50 scale it was constructed the same way the actual building was (which will be expressed in the project documentation), leaving it in its raw state highlighting its construction process through its burnt out interiors and layers on its external face.
The use of four different dowel sizes highlights the tear drop oculus above, and gives the interior a more acute representation of its detail. The way the light filters through this oculus and falls on the left behind the concrete shell emphasis Zumthor's ability to activate the human senses and manipulate light through materiality.
